Why Is My Steering Wheel Shaking When I Brake?

If your steering wheel or brake pedal shudders when you slow down, the most common culprit is uneven or “warped” rotors — the discs your brake pads clamp onto. It’s one of the repairs we see most often in Miami, largely because of how much braking our stop-and-go traffic demands.
What’s actually happening
“Warped” is the everyday term, but what’s usually going on is uneven rotor thickness or runout. As pads press against a rotor that’s no longer perfectly flat, the grip pulses on and off many times per second — and you feel that as a shake through the wheel (front rotors) or the pedal (rear rotors).
What causes brake shudder
